PFMS Scholarship – About PFMS Portal
Launched in the year 2008-09, the CPSMS or PFMS portal was initially created to monitor the four flagship schemes of the Government of India, MGNREGS, PMGSY, NRHM, and SSA in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Bihar, and Punjab. However, later it was integrated with the financial network of the Central/State Governments and agencies of the State Governments. Further, the Government of India announced the DBT scheme in 2013 which was to be implemented through the PFMS portal.
Under the DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) scheme, payments of scholarships, pensions, and other social welfare schemes were directly transferred to the ultimate beneficiaries through PFMS (Aadhaar Enabled or NEFT). This, in turn, allows students to track their payment status online. Schemes for which payment status can be availed through the PFMS portal are broadly classified into two categories –

PFMS Scholarship – Central Sector Schemes
Central Sector Schemes are those schemes that are 100% funded by the Central Government and implemented through a Central Government Agency. And for example – Scholarship schemes are implemented through National Scholarship Portal (NSP). So these scholarships can also be broadly called PFMS Scholarships.

PFMS Bank Transfer
- Centrally Sponsored Schemes: Funded directly by the Central/Departments and implemented by the States or their agencies.
- CSS (Central Sector Schemes): CSS implements by central agencies and fully funded by the Centre.
- DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer): Through Direct Benefit Transfer of the Ministry of Finance, the Government of India intends to achieve electronic transfer of benefits, less delay, and accurate targeting of beneficiaries. Who verifies the NSP scholarship?
The District/State/Ministry Nodal Officer will verify the physical form and the details entered in the system, and approve/reject the Institute Nodal Officer Registration Form details on the NSP using the “Verify Institute Registration Form” option under the Administration section in their login will do.
Can I apply twice for NSP?
If you are applying for an NSP scholarship then you cannot apply for two scholarships at a time as it is a criterion for NSP that if you are taking one scholarship then you can avail of any other scholarship.
Can I register twice in NSP?
No, all the existing and eligible beneficiaries of the scholarship are required to fill out the renewal form on NSP every year during their entire course duration. Each renewal of the scholarship is for a period of one academic year only, unless otherwise specified.
Is the scholarship paid monthly?
When you get the scholarship the money depends on the scholarship you won. Sometimes you get the money all at once before school starts and in other cases, the money is divided into installments. Sometimes the scholarship can be paid in the middle of a semester.
How much is the scholarship?
The rate of scholarship towards tuition fees for normal degree courses is Rs. 30,000 per annum for engineering courses. 1.25 lakh per annum and for medical studies Rs. 3.0 lakh per annum.
